In a marketplace increasingly focused on environmental considerations and issues around sustainability, Godfrey Hirst are incredibly proud to have products officially certified Declare® LBC Red List Free.

The International Living Future Institute (ILFI), and local affiliate the Living Future Institute of Australia (LFIA), are organisations committed to driving sustainable change in the Australian Built environment through the development of leading edge programs, that are designed to radically change our approach to building and construction.

Predicated on creating a healthier built environment, the Declare® program delivers clear, unambiguous information about building material specifications. Participating manufacturers are required to disclose a Product’s entire constituent chemical composition to a threshold of 100-parts-per-million; essentially creating a ‘nutrition’ label of ingredients.

<h3>A product transparency program</h3>

Each Declare® label is compared against a list of worst-inclass materials, better known as the Red List. Chemicals on the Red List can pose an increased risk of:

	<li>Polluting the environment</li>
	<li>Bio-accumulation of contaminants progressing up the food chain</li>
	<li>Negative health implications for factory personnel, construction industry workers and building occupants</li>
</ul>

Aware of our role in developing products that homeowners can comfortably put in their homes, we worked with our entire supply chain to identify, source and utilise the healthiest possible manufacturing ingredients. When we were confident our product met the stringent sustainability and toxic free chemical standards, we applied for LFIA Declare® certification.

	<li>Declared - This base level of transparency, while revealing a product’s ingredients, will nevertheless contain some Red List ingredients, which will also be highlighted in orange</li>

An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a comprehensive, internationally standard report that documents the ways in which a product, throughout its lifecycle, affects the environment. EPDs help customers better understand a product's sustainable qualities and environmental repercussions so they can make more informed product selections.

An EPD tells the complete story of a product in a single, written report, including information about a product's environmental impact, such as raw material extraction, energy use, air, soil and water emissions, water use and waste generation. EPDs distil complicated information to empower our customers, architects and designers, procurement agents and consumers to make informed decisions. EPDs can be developed after a product lifecycle assessment (LCA) is conducted, and are based on applicable product category rules (PCRs). GH Commercial’s EPDs are third-party verified. The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC™) is a leading international non-profit organisation whose mission is to promote sustainable forest management through independent third-party accreditation. Taking local conditions and priorities into consideration, PEFC works to protect forests both locally and globally, forming partnerships with multiple stakeholders around the world to boost their collective impact.

Through the PEFC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification, Responsible Wood (the national governing body for PEFC in Australia) promote best practice throughout the entire supply chain to make certain all products from forests are produced to the highest ecological, cultural, ethical and environmental standards. This allows us to actively track every log from forest to floor, guaranteeing that the PEFC certified timber in these products has been responsibly harvested through PEFC. The Belgian designed vinyl plank floors also have great functional features, with the latest research and development into wellness, acoustics and performance. ECS Level 4+ is the highest standard within the ECS program. This stringent program is a Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) approved third party, with Green Star Level 4 certification providing at least a minimum of 12 Green Star points.
