Large-scale artist Rone returned home to transform a room within the Geelong Gallery. See how our custom Designer Jet® carpet forms part of Rone’s artistic installation.
Geelong-born artist Rone has spent two decades building an exceptional reputation for large-scale wall paintings and immersive installations. Exploring the concepts of beauty and decay, Rone’s latest installation was a full feature exhibition, where he completely transformed a room within the Geelong Gallery. The exhibition paid homage to the architecture and history of the building and the historic art collection held inside.
The exhibition ran from Saturday, 27th Feb to Sunday 16th May 2021, the exhibition observed Rone’s stellar career, examining his early stencil works and street art through to photographs documenting his major installations that have transformed abandoned spaces.
GH Commercial proudly partnered with Rone and the Geelong Gallery to bring the RONE in Geelong exhibition to life. Exploring the relationship between beauty / decay and light and dark, Rone worked with our locally based textile design team to create a custom Designer Jet® carpet, featuring our built-in Quick Comfort® cushion backing.
Our flooring was fashioned to work with the design of a space, enhancing its best qualities with an unmatched finish. The design process started by our team sharing designs from our library to start building concept ideas, Rone was then able to further conceptualise the artwork he envisioned for the space.
Wanting to experience his custom design coming to fruition, Rone came down to our Geelong factory to watch the Designer Jet® machine in action, printing the carpet for the exhibition. Rone was truly mesmerised by the detail captured on the carpet, as well as the overall lushness, texture and performance that had over 46,000 visitors in 11 weeks.
When walking through the exhibition, Rone wanted to transport visitors to another place, the carpet played an important role in achieving this due to the large footprint it had in the Geelong Gallery. The beauty of the carpet design itself, plus the softness and warmth it brought to the space, allowed people to feel immersed in the exhibition.
At the forefront of custom carpet technology, Designer Jet® works by taking any striking pattern, drawing or image and using precision engineering to inject dye into the carpet, offering a flexible, creative and performance driven flooring solution.
