When Geoff Thomson purchased the historic Menzies Building on Invercargill’s Lower Esk Street in 2021, he envisioned more than a renovation — he imagined a homecoming. His goal was to bring Distinction’s signature high-quality, heartfelt hospitality to his hometown, transforming the former government building into a refined 4.5-star, 150-room hotel that feels both elegant and deeply connected to Southland.

Collaborating to bring a highly customised design vision to life, GH Commercial manufactured a bespoke Designer Jet® carpet that balanced timeless country pub character with the performance required for modern hospitality.

Following extensive restoration works, the Norfolk Chapel at Karrakatta has been carefully revitalised to once again serve as a place of reflection, remembrance and community connection. After sustaining significant damage in October 2024, the project called for a considered interior response that would restore dignity and comfort to this much-loved chapel, while respecting its cultural and emotional significance.
