In 2023, the completion of the new Canterbury Cancer Centre in Langdons Rd, Papanui, marks a significant milestone. It stands as a beacon of hope, replacing facilities lost to the Christchurch earthquakes and heralding a new era for the Cancer Society’s patient accommodations and support services in Christchurch.
Nicola Coom, the Chief Executive of the Cancer Society Canterbury – West Coast, envisions this space as a pivotal hub for individuals battling various forms of cancer across the South Island. With 50 carefully planned accommodation rooms, this centre aims to provide solace and support to those undertaking treatments at Christchurch Hospital.
"We aspire for this centre to be a haven of innovation in cancer support for the people of Canterbury and the wider South Island," says Nicola. She and her team are committed to expanding their services to encompass therapeutic cancer treatments, including lymphatic drainage massage and counselling, fostering a comprehensive approach to well-being.
Art Style collection
Collaborating closely with Wilson & Hill Architects, GH Commercial embarked on a quest to select flooring that would not only meet the rigorous demands of a healthcare facility but also contribute to a positive atmosphere, promoting well-being among patients. The choice fell upon Mohawk's Art Style collection, specifically the Disruptive Path carpet planks. Designed to infuse common areas with a blend of tranquility and vibrant energy, these flooring elements represent Mohawk's belief in the transformative power of design.
Crafted from Colorstrand® Solution Dyed Nylon fiber, these materials exceed expectations in both durability and aesthetics. Offering lasting beauty and environmental responsibility, the product boasts notable features such as third-party certifications for its 30% recycled content by SCS Global Services, CRI Green Label Plus® certification for low VOC emissions, and its status as Declare Red List free.
Custom Solution-Dyed Nylon Carpet Tiles
In the accommodation areas, custom solution-dyed nylon carpet tiles were carefully selected.
Beyond their warm and inviting residential ambiance, these tiles ensure easy maintenance and swift replacements in the event of damage, further enhancing the comfort and functionality of the space.
Both products are proudly manufactured locally in Australia by GH Commercial, ensuring quick dispatch and readily available stock. This local production not only underscores quality control but also offers the advantage of swift availability, aligning seamlessly with the project's timelines and requirements.
The meticulous attention to detail in selecting these materials speaks volumes about the commitment to creating an environment that not only heals the body but also nurtures the spirit of those seeking comfort and support within the Canterbury Cancer Centre.
