Designing the interior of The Meat & Wine Co’s latest venue in Sydney’s CBD, the COOOP design team required a bespoke carpet design that embodied the traditional cultural design elements within the venue. Utilising our Designer Jet® technology, a gold and charcoal abstract carpet was created to perfectly match the wallpaper that is applied to the roof to create a mirrored effect that is the centre piece of the design.

Design Collaboration
The newest location of the Meat and Wine Co. reflects its South African origins which is translated through the interior design of the space. The team from COOOP Design Studio Australia Callie van der Merwe, Roberto Zambri and Calvin Janse Van Vuuren nailed the brief once again to deliver a truly immersive dining experience.
“In 1932 a remarkable Golden rhinoceros was found in a royal grave in the Kingdom of Mapungupwe, located in the modern-day South Africa. It’s against this backdrop that the story of Meat & Wine Castlereagh - named after the 2nd Marquess of Londonderry, Lord Castlereagh – was born. With the Meat & Wine brand originating in South Africa the discovery of gold that unified an era in Australia and South Africa in the latter half of the 1800’s seemed a fitting theme. The fabrication of the Golden rhinoceros, wood covered in thin sheets of gold or gold leaf -the hammering of gold into thin sheets around 0.1 µm thick by a process known as goldbeating informed the visual identity of the floor and ceiling in the heart of the restaurant.” - Callie van der Merwe – COOOP Director.

Utilising our Designer Jet® technology the COOOP design team worked alongside our in-house design team to create the perfect centre piece for this dining setting. The gold and charcoal abstract carpet needed to be matched perfectly to the wallpaper that is applied to the roof to create a mirrored effect.
