Nestled in Victoria's picturesque Kiewa Valley, the historic Dederang Hotel has been at the heart of its community for well over a century. First established in 1885, the hotel has welcomed generations of locals, hosting everything from celebrations and sporting events to everyday catch-ups over a meal or drink.

When actor Shane Jacobson and producer Dean Murphy purchased the much-loved country pub, their vision wasn't to reinvent it, but to restore it. As documented in Channel 7’s Ooops! I Bought a Pub!, the pair embraced the philosophy of "change nothing, improve everything", carefully balancing modern upgrades with the heritage and character that made the hotel such an important part of the local community.

As part of the extensive renovation, GH Commercial manufactured a bespoke Australian Made Designer Jet® carpet, creating a durable flooring solution that respected the pub's history while supporting its next chapter.

A Carpet Designed to Honour Tradition

Rather than selecting an off-the-shelf flooring solution, the project featured a custom Designer Jet® carpet incorporating the hotel's "TDH" monogram, an idea suggested by the Team at Wodonga Carpet Court to create a personalised finish throughout the main bar, lounge and dining area.

The resulting design reflects the timeless aesthetic of a traditional Australian country pub. Rich burgundy tones, gold detailing and classic fleur-de-lis motifs create a sense of familiarity and warmth, complementing the building's heritage and reinforcing the team's commitment to preserving its original charm.

The bespoke pattern demonstrates how custom flooring can become part of a venue's identity, adding character while delivering the commercial durability required for a busy hospitality environment.

Bringing the Vision to Life with Australian Made Innovation

With renovation works unfolding alongside filming for the television series, the project required a flooring solution that could be delivered efficiently without compromising on quality, performance or design.

Manufactured in Australia, Designer Jet® enabled the bespoke concept to be produced specifically for the Dederang Hotel, with fast lead times, smaller minimum order quantities and the durability required to withstand heavy foot traffic in a busy hospitality environment.

Giving architects, designers and venue owners the freedom to transform virtually any artwork, pattern or concept into a commercially rated carpet, Designer Jet® uses precision dye injection technology to reproduce intricate graphics, textures and colours while delivering long-lasting performance. The result at the Dederang Hotel is a custom flooring solution that complements the restored interiors, creating a warm and welcoming foundation for the hotel's public spaces while celebrating its unique identity.

Beyond design flexibility and performance, Designer Jet® is manufactured to exacting sustainability standards, using less water, chemicals and dyes than traditional carpet dyeing methods. All Designer Jet® products are proudly Australian Made and officially certified Declare Red List Free, delivering a bespoke flooring solution that balances creativity, durability and environmental responsibility.

A Community Hub Reimagined

More than a renovation, the transformation of the Dederang Hotel represents the revival of one of the Kiewa Valley's most treasured gathering places.

Guided by the philosophy of preserving the pub's identity while thoughtfully improving its facilities, the project demonstrates how considered design can honour history while preparing a venue for the future. The custom Designer Jet® carpet contributes to that vision, providing a practical, hard-wearing foundation that feels authentically at home within the restored country pub.

GH Commercial is proud to have played a role in helping bring the next chapter of the Dederang Hotel to life.
