St Lukes Health is a Tasmanian based health insurance company that has their sights on making Tasmania the healthiest island on the planet through their not-for-profit and locally owned business structure. St Lukes Health offers customers ‘wellness hubs’ in Hobart and Launceston, which is a place where every Tasmanian can find ways to get healthier.

Sustainability focus

The St Lukes Launceston Wellness Hub was the most sustainable and carbon positive office development in Tasmania. Located just a 5-minute walk from the Launceston City Park, it’s clear that the headquarters for the health insurer has been built with sustainability and nature in mind, particularly when selecting the flooring. The flooring was meticulously chosen by Terroir, an architectural firm based in Hobart, ultimately deciding on the Lichen Community collection. Featuring throughout the wellness hub is Bark Community in colour 858 Bark, combined with Micro & Macro Bloom II in colour 856 Jewel Leaf Bark to suit the sustainability focus of the building.

Biophilic carpet tiles and planks

One of the key features of the Lichen Community collection is its biophilic three-plank system, which allows for wayfinding and the creation of unique large-scale installations. By setting the more visually active Macro Bloom II style in a field of Bark Community, transitioning between them with Micro Bloom II, resulting in an organic, seamless installation. All styles can be also used on their own or combined as desired, delivering an infinite variety of organic floorscapes to support biophilic space design. It is also made locally in Australia with the latest Pattern Perfect™ tufting technology, the Lichen Community Collection is now available faster than ever and like all our Australian made carpet tiles, is Declare Red List Free.

Offices are increasingly adopting biophilic design concepts as the workplace evolves and a more human-centric approach to office design takes hold. Biophilic design aims to enhance humankind’s innate biological connection with nature, bringing natural elements into interior spaces and mimicking natural patterns. Its intention is to improve the quality of life of employees, improve sustainability outcomes, increase productivity and create workspaces that support social and communal wellbeing.
