Project Overview

Orewa Sands Retirement Village is located at the western end of Auckland's Orewa Beach at 25 Annalise Place. Set amidst native bush with beach views, the village offers residents a calm and scenic environment to enjoy their retirement. Stage 2 of the project is underway and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, supporting the village’s expansion to meet future needs.

Interior Design

Interior designer Stewart Harris from Macintosh Harris crafted a design that reflects the natural beauty of Orewa Beach. By incorporating the area’s colors into the interiors, the spaces achieve a balance of relaxation and energy, creating a comfortable and visually pleasing environment for residents.

Living Spaces and Bedrooms: Thoughtful Flooring Choices

In the living areas and bedrooms, 850 linear meters of New Zealand-made Feltex’s Okiwi Bay carpet in the neutral shades Lucas and Manx were chosen. A trusted choice in commercial projects across New Zealand, Okiwi Bay is well-known in the industry for its durability against New Zealand's harsh sun, stain resistance, and impressive pile resilience, ensuring it stays looking fresh and feels comfortable underfoot. These natural shades bring in the essence of the surrounding landscape, creating a seamless connection between the interiors and the beautiful outdoor views.

Hallways and Lift Areas: Beach-Inspired Carpet in Mohawk Broadloom

For the hallways and lifts, the team selected Mohawk’s Broadloom carpet in Drifting Current, Ocean Spray color, bringing a hint of beach tones into the main walkways. The patterned design of the carpet added a layer of complexity to the installation, yet, our retail partner on this project - Flooring Junction - successfully minimized waste by working with the pattern’s natural flow, completing the installation with 327 linear meters. This American-made, loop-pile carpet uses durable, solution-dyed nylon with robust environmental certifications, including EPD and Red List Free status.

Common Areas: Mohawk Macro Bloom Tiles for Community Spaces

In the lounge and activity rooms, 240 square meters of locally made Mohawk Macro Bloom tiles from the award-winning Lichen Collection, in color Sky Shield Stone, were installed. As one of Mohawk’s longest-standing ranges, this versatile collection has proven its excellence across various environments, from education and retail to workplaces. Inspired by expansive lichen communities that grow harmoniously on bark and rocks, the Lichen Community collection embodies biophilic design at its best, promoting a connection with nature. Produced at our Australian plant and Red List free, these durable tiles offer a modular format for easy replacement, ensuring the village’s social spaces stay fresh and vibrant.
