GBCA Greenstar

Green Star is a voluntary sustainability rating system for buildings in Australia. It was launched in 2003 by the Green Building Council of Australia, of which GH Commercial is a member.

The Green Star rating system assesses the sustainability of projects at all stages of the built environment life cycle. Ratings can be achieved at the planning phase for communities, during the design, construction or fit out phase of buildings, or during the ongoing operational phase.

The system considers, assesses and rates buildings, fitouts and communities against a range of environmental impact categories, and aims to encourage leadership in environmentally sustainable design and construction, showcase innovation in sustainable building practices, and consider occupant health, productivity and operational cost savings.

All GH Commercial carpet products (modular and broadloom) are accredited for Green Star compliance by the Australian Carpet Institute’s Environmental Certification Scheme. The Environmental Certification Scheme (ECS) is a stringent, industry based, GBCA approved Third Party Certification body. Each individual commercial product is rated under the ECS and the test certificates are available for download via the product pages on this site. All Godfrey Hirst Modular products achieve ECS Level 4 (Green Star Level A) certification giving the maximum 5 credit points.

Most of our luxury vinyl plank and hybrid flooring ranges are also accredited for Green Star compliance through their Global GreenTag Green Rate Level A certification, which also provides maximum Green Star points.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is one of the most widely used green building rating systems in the world. Available for virtually all building, community and home project types, LEED provides a framework to create healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings.

LEED is based upon a points system. The more points you earn, the higher your rating. LEED does not award points based on the use of particular products but rather upon meeting the performance standards set forth in its rating systems. It is up to project teams to determine which products are most appropriate for credit achievement and program requirements.

GH Commercial has products that can contribute to all the following LEED v4 credits:

  • MR Credit “Building Product Disclosure and Optimisation – Material Ingredients”
  • MR Credit “Building Product Disclosure and Optimisation – Material Ingredients”
  • MR Credit “Building Product Disclosure and Optimisation – Environmental Product Declaration”
  • MR Credit “Building Product Disclosure – Sourcing of Raw Materials”
  • MR Credit “Building Product Disclosure – Sourcing of Raw Materials”
  • MR Credit “Interiors Life-Cycle Impact Reduction”
  • IEQ Credit “Low-Emitting Materials”

The WELL Building Standard® is an evidence-based system for measuring, certifying and monitoring the performance of building features that impact health and well-being.

As opposed to LEED, which is focused on the building, WELL focuses on healthy workspaces and people, and focuses on seven concepts: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Fitness, Comfort and Mind.

Flooring is not a specific component of the WELL Building Standard ®, however GH Commercial's sustainable philosophies and product designs complement several areas within the seven concepts identified in the standard.

GH Commercial’s commitment to product transparency and material health is well aligned with the philosophy of the Well Building Standard® and its seven concepts.
